Riflessioni
The story of British football and the foreign challenge is the story of a vast superiority, sacrificed by stupidity, short-sightedness, and wanton insularity. It is a story of shamefully wasted talent, extraordinary complacency and infinite self-deception. Over the past forty years, Britain's finest coaches have consistently been forced abroad through neglect, where foreign countries have gladly made use of their ability. "The pupils", in the worn and superannuated phrase "have quite outstripped their masters", but only because their masters made it easy for them to do so.
